Vlisco’s fashion facilitation system aims to develop and support upcoming tailors and designers through various initiatives, to become established professionals.

Upcoming fashion designers who applied for the VFF had the chance to win a fashion fund of GHC 20,000 and a masterclass. Over fifty applicants submitted their portfolio, CV and business plan between October 23rd and November 3rd.

In the first round, 43 applications were carefully evaluated. Of these 43, 8 candidates were selected and asked to make a cocktail outfit using Vlisco fabric. The outfit was worn by a model and presented to the jury. The four jury members are noted professionals from different areas of the African fashion industry: Araba Akompi (CEO of Stylista_GH); Afua Rida (Stylist & Fashion Blogger); Eugenia Techie-Menson (Educationist & 2014 Vlisco Ambassador); and Stephen Badu (Marketing Director).

The team of judges chose Belinda Ofori as the winner of Ghana’s Vlisco’s Fashion Fund 2017.

Belinda attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and studied at Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design.

Belinda aims to create a positive impact in the design industry and wants people to express themselves through her concepts. Belinda has worked in brand strategy and content development, and is now launching her fashion label ‘Turquoise’.
