Ethiopian Airlines Claims “African Champion of the year” at Africa CEO Forum Awards in Kigali

Ethiopian Airlines emerged as the ‘African Champion of the year’ on Monday at the 7th edition of the Africa CEO Forum Awards 2019, which is taking place in Kigali from March 25, 2019.

Every year, The AFRICA CEO FORUM AWARDS recognize the companies and investors that have shaped the year in Africa, during the AFRICA CEO FORUM Gala Dinner.

More than 200 companies, investors and CEOs have been nominated over the last five years, embodying the vitality of Africa’s economy.

The Awards Ceremony takes place during the AFRICA CEO FORUM gala dinner on 25 March 2019, in Kigali.


Ethiopian Airlines was awarded for their ultra-african partnerships, reaching 40 countries on the continent, Africa CEO Forum said in a statement.


The award was received by the airline’s CEO, Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam.

Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam appreciates everyone’s support.

In his acceptance speech Gebremariam said:

“I would like to start by thanking everyone who has supported us after the tragic accident that happened to us two weeks ago.”

“We promise to keep up the good work for the good of the African continent.”  He added.

Also at the event, Morocco’s Mohamed El Kettani emerged the 2019 African CEO of the year.

The awards wouldn’t have ended without recognition of gender and Access Bank were the victors, going home with the ‘Gender Leader’ award. The emancipation of women forms the backbone of the Bank’s strategy.
