Original Story Published by: Johnny Edwards for Complete Sports Nigeria

KAA Gent midfielder Anderson Esiti admits his return to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia is a big doubt but he remains hopeful, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Esiti is yet to get an invitation to the team since featuring for the three-time African champions in their first Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Zambia in Ndola in 2016 which Nigeria won 2-1. The presence of Wilfred Ndidi, Mikel Agu, John Ogu and Ogenyi Onazi in his position has further pushed the 23-year-old down the pecking order.

It’s the dream of every player to represent his country at a big stage like the World Cup but it going to be tough. I’ve not been in the team for a while now so I can’t say,” Esiti told CSN.

“But anything can still happen.”

The combative midfielder who remains hopeful of an invitation also expressed confidence in the team’s chances of qualifying from their group.

Nigeria will face Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D in Russia.
